FAQ

Below are some frequently asked questions. If you cannot find the information you are looking for, please do not hesitate to contact the Regina Minor Rugby team at reginaminorrugby@nullgmail.com with any questions you should have.

Q: I don’t know any rules of rugby and my child has never played before, can they still register?
A: Absolutely, all of our coaches are trained in the rules of rugby and learning together with their peers is part of the fun.

Q: From what I know about rugby, it is a high contact sport, isn’t it too rough for kids to play so young?
A: Safety of your child is always important and our coaches teach the fundamentals of team work and safety at all times. Saskatchewan Mini Rugby began playing “flag rugby” which does not include scrums, line-outs and contact that you see in traditional rugby games. For more info please visit www.saskrugby.com.

Q: How long is a practice/game?
A: Youth will practice or play a game for 60+ minutes (longer times for older youth). This includes: warm-up, playing time and breaks.
A 15s game is made up of two 40 minute halves. A 7s game is made up of two 7 minute halves.

Q: When are the practices/games?
A: Ages 4 to 15 – The season will hold practices/games on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
Ages 16 to 18 – The season will hold games on Mondays and Wednesdays. The practice times will be determined by the coach.

Q: What equipment does my child need to play?
A: Shorts or pants that are easy to run in, a t-shirt or sweatshirt depending on weather, cleats and a mouth guard are necessary. A water bottle and small towel are useful too to keep cool and hydrated. This is the prairies, so don’t forget layers are sometimes key, and bug spray is sometimes a must.
